Dr. Joan Carles

Dr. Joan Carles received his M.D degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1987 from the Universidad de Barcelona and obtained his Ph.D, from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona in 1992. He completed his specialty training in Medical Oncology at the Hospital Universitario Germans Trias i Pujol in Badalona and in 1996 received the European Certificate in Medical Oncology in Wien.
In 1991 he joined the Medical Oncology Unit at the Hospital de Terrassa and from April 1992 to September 2008 worked as a medical oncologist at the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona. In September 2008 he joined the Oncology Department of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital as Head of the Genitourinary, Central Nervous System, Sarcoma and Tumours of unknown origin Program.
Dr. Joan Carles is co-founder and has been between 1999 and 2012 Secretary and Vicepresident of the Spanish Society for the Treatment of Genitourinary Cancer (SOGUG), member of the Spanish Society of Head and Neck Tumours (CTT) as well as member of the Spanish Sarcoma Research Group (GEIS). He is part-time professor of Medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona since 1995. He is also associate professor of Oncology at Universitat International de Catalunya (UIC) and coordinator of the Medical Oncology training program. Dr. Carles has authored more than 100 articles and more than 350 presentations in congresses and book chapters.
His research interests are clinical genitourinary oncology, sarcoma and early and translational clinical research in genetic polymorphisms as well as angiogenesis, as targets in cancer therapy.
He also coordinates multicentric national clinical trials for new drugs in the treatment of prostate, kidney and bladder cancer.
In addition, Dr. Carles is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), member of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and member of the Spanish Association of Medical Oncology (SEOM). He acts as a consultant in an advisory capacity for the preparation and development for the Oncological Guidelines for the government of Catalunya (Oncoguies Catsalut).

Dr. Daniel Castellano

Dr. Castellano is a Medical Oncologist of University Hospital 12 de Octubre (Madrid) with a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of genitourinary tumors such as renal, bladder, prostate and testicular cancer.
He is currently Head of the GU Oncology Unit, Germ Cell Tumors Unit and Neuroendocrine Tumors Unit.

His research is focused on the development of new drugs in GU tumors and Neuroendocrine tumors, and he is the Principal Investigator of more than 15 clinical trials (phase I, II and III trials). He has published more than 30 peer-review articles in relevant and recognized oncology journals.

Dr. Castellano is Chair of Spanish Oncology Genitourinary Group (SOGUG), member of executive committee of GETNE (Spanish Group of Neuroendocrine tumors), and member of a different International and National Scientific organizations.

Dr. Miguel Ángel Climent

Born in Valencia in 1963. Medicine studies in the Universidad of Valencia where he finished in 1987 with the licence in Medicine and Surgery with a extraordinary award. Fellowship in Medical Oncology in Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau of Barcelona from 1988 to1991. From 1992 he Works as a Medical Oncology specialist in the staff of Medical Oncology Service in Instituto Valenciano de Oncología Foundation. Since 2005 is Consultant and in charge of Genitourinary Tumours Section.
Doctor in Medicine in Universidad Autónoma of Barcelona in 1995. He has participated in clinical investigation and he has been Principal Investigator in the Insituto Valenciano de Oncología in more than 60 phase I, II and III Trials. He is author of many national and international papers. From 2008 to 2015 he has been member of the Directive Committee of SOGUG collaborative group and Chief of the Prostate Cancer Section of the Group.

Jesús García-Donas was born in Alcalá de Guadaira (Sevilla) in 1974. He received his MD from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1998 and subsequently trained as Medical Oncologist at the Hospital Universitario Clínico San Carlos, Madrid. After completing his oncology training in 2002, Jesús worked first in the Hospital Universitario de Elche. In 2003 later Jesús joined the Oncology Department of the Hospital Universitario Fundación Alcorcón, focusing in hereditary cancer syndromes and gynecological, genitourinary tumors. In 2009, he completed his sub-specialization in Genitourinary Tumors with a clinical fellowship at the New York Langone Medical Center under the supervision of Dr. Ana Ferrari. Since May 2012 Jesús leads the Gynecological, Genitourinary and Skin Cancer Unit and the Familiar and Rare Tumors Program at the Centro Integral Oncológico Clara Campal (Madrid).
Jesús has participated as co-investigator in up to 210 Phase I, II and III clinical trials and has published over 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including the prestigious The Lancet Oncology and Journal of Clinical Oncology.
Jesús currently leads several translational projects and clinical trials in the field of Kidney Cancer and Rare Tumors. Most relevant are the EuroTarget study funded by the 7th Framework Program of the European Union, that will deeply improve our knowledge of predictive biomarkers in renal tumors, the CIRClEs study (Circulating Endothelial Cells in renal cancer) and the phase II study of dovitnib, a new tyrosin kinase inhibitor, in adrenocortical carcinomas.

Jesús has also received several grants and awards including the 2006 FREMAP award for investigational projects, the “Fundación Renal Iñigo Álvarez de Toledo” award, a grant for Independent Clinical Investigation from the Health Spanish Ministry (EC11-178) and a grant from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III within the Acción Estratégica en Salud program.

Begoña Mellado González is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and co-Chair of the Urology Cancer Unit at the Hospital Clínic i Provincial de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain. She graduated in Medicine from the University of Barcelona in 1989, completed her specialist training in Medical Oncology at the Hospital Clínic i Provincial de Barcelona in 1993 and was awarded her PhD by the University of Barcelona in 2002. She has also held research fellowship positions at the Hospital Clínic i Provincial de Barcelona (1990–1994) and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (1995–1996).
Dr. Mellado is the elected Leader of the Prostate Cancer Group at the Translational Oncology Research Laboratory, IDIBAPS, Hospital Clínic, University of Barcelona, and an active member of the Prostate Cancer Group at the Spanish Genitourinary Oncology Group (SOGUG). Her research focuses on urological cancer and translational research, particularly the detection and characterization of circulating tumor cells in prostate cancer, and molecular mechanisms of resistance to chemotherapy in castrate-resistant prostate cancer. She has authored or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in these fields.

Dr. Méndez-Vidal is Associate Professor at Cordoba University and an active member of the Spanish Oncology Genitourinary Group (SOGUG) and the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology. Dr. Méndez-Vidal received her M.D. degree from the Universidad of Málaga. She performed the Medical Oncology Residency at Clinical University Hospital in Córdoba, Spain. She joined the staff at the Medical Oncology Service of University Hospital in Córdoba and she is the Responsible of the Uro-oncological Unit. Dr. David Olmos

David Olmos trained as Medical Oncologist at the “Hosp. Univ. Virgen de la Victoria”, Málaga. He also received his PhD from the “Univ. de Málaga” and a Master degree in Biostatistics and Research Methodology from the UAB. In 2006, David joined The Royal Marsden Hospital-The Institute of Cancer Research, United Kingdom, to train as Clinician Scientist in the fields of Prostate Cancer and Drug Development. At the end 2012 he moved to Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) to lead Prostate Cancer research, collaborating since 2013 with CIOCC and since 2015 with “IBIMA-HH.UU. de Málaga” in their Prostate Cancer clinical trials programmes. He also leads the PROCURE platform for biomakers research in CRPC.

David Olmos has published over 70 indexed paper with an H-index of 30 and has received several grants and awards including: an ESMO Research Fellowship (2006-2007), a SEOM Translational Research Fellowship (2009-2010), a GSK-AACR scholarship (2008), three ASCO merit awards (2008, 2009 and 2010) and three ESMO merit awards (2008, 2010 and 2012), “AECC – Beca de Retorno” 2012-2016”, “Juan Letona” Translational Medicine Research award 2013, Prostate Cancer Foundation YIA 2014, Astra-Zeneca YIA in Oncology 2015, and more recently a “Ramón y Cajal” fellowship from MINECO.

Graduada en Medicina y Cirugía por la Universidad Autònoma de Barcelona. Realizó la especialidad de Oncología Médica en Hospital del Mar – Parc de la Salut” Barcelona. Trabajó como investigadora en el Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona (PRBB).
Desde el 2008 trabaja como adjunta en el departamento de Oncología Médica del Hospital Universitari Vall d´Hebron-VHIO (Vall d´Hebron Institute of Oncology) en el área de tumores genitourinarios, sistema nervioso central, sarcomas y origen desconocido.
En el 2011 realiza un Fellowship en la Cleveland Clinic, reconocido como uno de los cuatro mejores hospitales de Estados Unidos.
Es co-investigadora y principal investigadora de más de 100 ensayos clínicos en el área de tumores genitourinarios, tumores cerebrales, sarcomas así como fases I.
Autora o co-autora de más de 80 artículos, comunicaciones y capítulos de libros a nivel nacional e internacional, especialmente centrados en el área de tumores genitourinarios.

Dr. Sergio Vázquez received his M.D. degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1987 from the University of Santiago de Compostela. He completed his specialty training in Medical Oncology at the Instituto Oncológico of Guipúzcoa in 1994.
From March 1995 he works as a medical oncologist at the Complexo Hospitalario Xeral-Calde (Lugo) and from January 2011 at the Hospital Universitario Lucus Augusti (Lugo). From November 2012 he is the coordinator of the Medical Oncology Unit of the Hospital Universitario Lucus Augusti (Lugo).
Dr. Sergio Vázquez is from November 2015 vocal responsible of bladder cancer of the Spanish Society for the Treatment of Genitourinary Cancer (SOGUG). He is also member of the Spanish Lung Cancer Group (GECP) as well as member and ex-president of the Galician Lung Cancer Group (GGCP). Dr. Vázquez has authored more than 40 articles and more than 150 presentations in congresses and book chapters.
His research interests are clinical genitourinary and thoracic oncology. He also is the principal investigator in more than 50 clinical trials.
In addition, Dr. Vázquez is a member of the Spanish Association of Medical Oncology (SEOM) and, from June 2016, president of the Oncology Association of Galicia (SOG). He acted as a consultant in an advisory capacity for the preparation and development for the Lung Cancer Guidelines for the Galician Health Service (SERGAS).
